Accessibility Statement
Last updated: April 5, 2026
Our Commitment
MCFRLive is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.
We believe that access to public safety information is important for all members of the community, and we strive to make the Service as usable and inclusive as possible.
Conformance Target
MCFRLive aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
While we strive for Level AA conformance across the entire Service, we recognize that some content and features may not yet fully meet all criteria. We are actively working to identify and resolve accessibility barriers.
Accessible Features
The following accessibility features are implemented throughout the Service:
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, form controls) are accessible via keyboard using the Tab key and standard keyboard interactions.
- Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements to help keyboard users identify their current position on the page.
- Skip navigation links are provided to allow users to bypass repetitive navigation elements.
Screen Reader Support
- Semantic HTML elements (headings, landmarks, lists, navigation) are used throughout the Service to provide meaningful structure for assistive technologies.
- ARIA attributes are used where necessary to convey dynamic content updates, such as live incident data, to screen readers.
- Images and icons include appropriate alternative text descriptions.
- Form elements are associated with descriptive labels.
Visual Design
- Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text) in both light and dark modes.
- A dark mode option is available to reduce eye strain and improve readability for users with light sensitivity.
- Information is not conveyed through color alone; text labels, icons, and patterns are used alongside color to communicate meaning.
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
Responsive Design
- The Service is fully responsive and usable on devices of all screen sizes, from mobile phones to large desktop monitors.
- Content reflows appropriately when the viewport is resized or when zoom levels are increased.
- Touch targets on mobile devices meet minimum size requirements for ease of interaction.
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas of the Service may have accessibility limitations that we are aware of and actively working to address:
- Interactive Maps: The map view relies on OpenStreetMap and may not be fully accessible to all screen reader users. Incident location data is also available in text format as an alternative.
- Real-Time Updates: The live incident feed updates automatically, which may be disorienting for some users. We use ARIA live regions to announce updates, but the frequency of changes may be overwhelming for some assistive technology configurations.
- Third-Party Content: Some third-party components (such as the Stripe payment form for Pro subscriptions) may have their own accessibility limitations that are outside of our direct control.
Feedback
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the Service. If you encounter accessibility barriers, have difficulty using any part of the Service with assistive technology, or have suggestions for improving accessibility, please let us know.
When contacting us about an accessibility issue, please include:
- A description of the issue you encountered.
- The page URL where the issue occurred.
- The assistive technology you were using (if applicable), including the name and version of your screen reader, browser, and operating system.
- Any suggestions for how we can improve the experience.
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five (5) business days and to resolve reported issues as quickly as possible.
